The Durfee Foundation has announced the 2024 recipients of the Lark Awards.
Durfee’s Lark Awards support the collective care and well-being of staff at small Los Angeles-based nonprofit organizations with deep ties to the community. Each organization will receive $30,000 to spend as they see fit to meet the needs of their staff for replenishment.
There are 20 organizations in the 2024 cohort. They are:
A Window Between Worlds
Asian Pacific Islander Reentry & Inclusion Through Support and Empowerment
Better Youth, Inc.
Coalition for Engaged Education
College Access Plan
Community Nature Connection
Cornerstone Theater Company
Forgotten Children, Inc.
Korean American Coalition
Los Angeles Music and Art School
Latino Equality Alliance
Maternal Mental Health Now

“Our third cohort of Lark Award recipients is composed of organizations providing critical services across Los Angeles County. These organizations have all shared a desire to explore what collective care means for their team. We are grateful to them for sharing their stories,” said Yvonne Macias, Durfee Program Manager.
“We launched this program in 2022 and continue to see a need for this type of funding in the field. Durfee funding does not come close to meeting this need. We hope that more foundations will start providing this type of support so that together we can address the culture of burnout within the nonprofit sector,” added Stella Chung, Director of Programs and Operations.
The awards are named in honor of the late Lark Galloway-Gilliam, founder and Executive Director of Community Health Councils. She left behind a powerful legacy for improving health and environmental equity in South Los Angeles.
Lark Awards applications will be open again in 2025. More information is available at https://durfee.org/our-programs/the-lark-awards/.
