The Durfee Foundation has announced the 2025 recipients of the Lark Awards.
Durfee’s Lark Awards support the collective care and well-being of staff at small Los Angeles-based nonprofit organizations with deep ties to the community. Each organization will receive $30,000 to spend as they see fit to meet the needs of their staff for replenishment.
There are 11 organizations in the 2025 cohort. They are:
artworxLA
Brothers, Sons, Selves Coalition
Community Asset Development Redefining Education (CADRE)
Eastside LEADS
Long Beach Forward
Mass Liberation
New Directions Drug and Alcohol Services, Inc.
Pomona Economic Opportunity Center
P.S. Science
Street Poets
The Plus Me Project
“We are excited to announce our fourth cohort of Lark recipients. As they begin their Lark journey, we are happy to provide this resource that encourages organizations to dream big and explore how to center joy and care for themselves and at their organization,” said Yvonne Macias, Durfee Program Manager.
“Our Lark program is a chance to recognize small, community-based organization across Los Angeles County. Funding for rest and renewal remains critical at a time when nonprofits are under attack and facing uncertainty. As we launch our fourth year and continue to see a large need for this resource, we hope more funders will find ways to support rest and well-being,” said Stella Chung, Director of Programs and Operations.
We’d like to thank Delaney Alamillo of Community Nature Connection, Susana Sniegm of United Cambodian Community, and current Durfee trustee, Saundra Bryant, for their participation on this year’s Lark panel. The awards are named in honor of the late Lark Galloway-Gilliam, founder and Executive Director of Community Health Councils. She left behind a powerful legacy for improving health and environmental equity in South Los Angeles.
Lark Awards applications will be open again in 2026. More information is available at https://durfee.org/our-programs/the-lark-awards/.
