Melanie Stephens co-founded Centro Latino for Literacy with Marcos Cajina and served on the Board of Directors until becoming the Executive Director in 2003. Centro Latino teaches literacy and offers other educational opportunities to those who have not had the benefit of an education, especially Latino immigrants. Melanie developed Centro Latino’s Spanish literacy campaign model to mobilize, train, equip and support literate Spanish speakers to help their non-literate friends and family members learn to read and write.
