Other Current Grants

In addition to its core programs, Durfee occasionally provides support to other efforts that benefit the Los Angeles community.

Trust-Based Philanthropy

The Trust-Based Philanthropy Project reimagines traditional funder-grantee relationships and seeks to change the inherent power imbalances that get in the way of nonprofits being able to do their work. The Project promotes the principles of Trust-Based Philanthropy to the broader funder community: being transparent and responsive; providing stable general operating support; soliciting and acting on feedback, and other practices. Launched in 2020, the Trust-Based Philanthropy Project is a five-year initiative that Durfee is proud to support and actively participate in.

Courage to Lead

Courage to Lead provides leadership training, nurturing and renewal for nonprofit executive leaders through a year-long program that consists of quarterly retreats at Casa de Maria in Santa Barbara. Durfee supports alumni from our Sabbatical, Stanton and Springboard programs to engage in CTL programs as a way to deepen and sustain the benefits of their Durfee experience.

Nonprofit Sustainability Initiative

Durfee is one of several LA-based grantmakers to participate in a pooled fund in support of the Nonprofit Sustainability Initiative (NSI). NSI supports Los Angeles area nonprofits in exploring and implementing formal, long-term partnerships and restructuring efforts that lead to greater organizational effectiveness and efficiencies.
