Father Gregory Boyle is the Founder and Director of Homeboy Industries (formerly Jobs for a Future), initially launched as an initiative of Proyecto Pastoral at Dolores Mission. Located in East Los Angeles, the Homeboy serves as an employment referral center and economic development program for at-risk and gang-involved youth. The organization operates several self-sustaining businesses—including a bakery, silkscreen shop, and cleaning service—which provide transitional, on-the-job training and employment opportunities. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Father Gregory worked in Bolivia following his ordination in 1984 and later served as Pastor of the Dolores Mission from 1986 to 1992. In 2024, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.
