Mark Gold served as the Executive Director of Heal the Bay for 23 years, having joined the organization in 1988 as its first staff scientist. Heal the Bay is a grassroots organization with tens of thousands of members and volunteers, dedicated to maintaining healthy waters in the Santa Monica Bay and across Southern California. The organization uses scientific research, education, advocacy and community action to ensure a safe environment for human and marine life. For more than 30 years, its popular Beach Report Cards have graded beaches from Washington state to Mexico. Mark has spent his entire life near the Santa Monica Bay, graduating from Santa Monica High School and receiving both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from UCLA, where he has also taught.
