Susan Burton is the founding Executive Director of A New Way of Life ReEntry Project (ANWOL), which operates homes and programs in South LA to support women recently released from prison in staying sober, finding jobs, and developing life skills. Susan herself overcame a decades-long history of incarceration and the struggles with reentry. After her release, she earned enough working as a home health aide to purchase a modest home in 1997, which she shared with her first clients. Today, ANWOL operates more than 10 residences and has helped thousands of women begin new lives. Susan also plays an important role both statewide and nationally, advocating on behalf of women with prison records.
