Los Angeles, CA (January 17, 2025) – The exciting evolution of leadership at the Durfee Foundation continues! The Foundation is excited to announce that its board has elected Halina Avery as Board President for 2025, with Theo Avery stepping down into the Board Vice President role.
“I am so grateful, and delighted Halina has agreed to step into the role of Board President,” shared Theo Avery. “When I was elected to succeed Carrie as Board Chair, we were facing a pivotal moment in our search for a new CEO. As the board’s then-youngest member, I felt that it would be natural for myself to represent future interests. I was honored to be handed the baton for that important process, and I am thrilled with the end result of having found and selected Maria Cabildo. As Maria begins her new role this year, what I most wish in a Board President going forward is someone on the ground with organizational know-how who is present, energetic, filled with passion for Durfee’s future, and excited to partner with both existing and new voices. That so aptly describes Halina. She was an amazing presence on the Transition Committee. I am sure she will keep the magic going as Board President.”
Halina reflects, “27 years and counting as a family member Trustee, Durfee’s culture of curiosity and connection continues to motivate me. I have served on many of our committees and programs over the years, from Finance to Transition, from programs now retired to our long-running Sabbatical program. Stepping into this new role as Board President and Chair, I will take on a more outward-facing position. I continue to feel that Durfee is ever-evolving. I am excited to support the success of our new CEO Maria Cabildo and to learn what we — Durfee’s now 4th generation of family member leaders since its initial founding, our Community Trustees, and our larger community — will accomplish together. Onwards with curiosity and connection!”
